Course Outline

Security aspects of MS Excel:

The program commences with the simplest for implementation, yet the most crucial agenda for any data management professional – Data protection.

Date and time functions:

This module begins with exploring the basic power of MS Excel as a calendar and a timepiece. It realizes basic programming application for date and time and its relevance to data management.

Interface between MS Excel and MS Word:

Data interchange between the two most widely used Microsoft applications – MS Word and MS Excel has at times confused even the most frequent Excel user. In this module participants explore the methods for transformation between Excel and Word files. They are also taken through the process of reconstruction of word files with Excel data and how to use Excel in word files.

Text Management in Excel:

This section deals in working with comments (Control text in cells and use them like numbers). It also informs about text manipulation in comments and conditional formatting for specific data. Using auto shapes is a part of this section.

Using analytical formulas in Excel:

You may not need the calculator hereon… this module will enable you to perform mathematical, statistical and financial functions using the power of MS Excel. You will also learn functions to manage text – text control formulas and lookup functions. The module progresses to reveal the power of excel to produce attractive and informative charts and graphs. It teaches how to insert and manage charts and graphs, what data to include for graphs and how to interpret the information. The module then moves on to one of the most powerful features of MS Excel Pivot table and Pivot reports.

Labels and names:

It is always good to have a name. In this module participants would learn all about creating labels and creating names using the name box to start calling cells by names rather than by numbers. Participants will learn to create names for constants and will create a list of names and change the range for names. They will also learn how to delete names. Hereon you will make MS excel work for you.

Validation techniques:

Data validation has always been an integral part of data management. This session takes the participants through the various validation techniques for MS Excel. It explores data validation by number range, tests data validation and creates input messages for users of preformatted Excel templates. It also delves into error alerts!

Though a very small module its importance can never be underscored for those engaged in data consolidation. The module deals with consolidating data with identical layouts.

Macro programming:

This is the most glamorous part of any Excel program and deals with magic like performances using the unprecedented powers of MS Excel. Participants would be exposed to the concept of macros and would also learn to record and run a simple macro.

Data modeling:

The module attempts to introduce the participants to the next level of data management, analysis and control. They are exposed to data modelling at a conceptual level.

Introduction to MS Access:

The program concludes with a brief insight into the world of MS Access and its amazing powers. It demonstrates the ease with which these two data systems integrate allowing synergy and ease of up gradation as and when the time comes for the same.

Upon completion of the training, participants will have an expertise over all of the above powers of MS Excel and would have implemented quite a few of the learning’s in real time. With a bit of practice and sustained implementation they would be ready for the challenges of Data management, analysis and control.
